Former hip-hop label owner Marc Blatte is bringing his crazy past to the page with a series of murder mystery novels following a crime detectives search for killers among the hustlers, hoes, and the rap elite.
The debut novel, titled Humpty Dumpty Was Pushed (Schaffner Press), follows the crimes prevalent in the rap industry, something Blatte is very acquainted with.
He says, I draw from my real life. I was a pioneer of hip-hop back in the day. A lot of the book is based on hanging out with rappers like Wu Tang Clan and seeing some crazy stuff. Theres a lot of violence in that world.
Blatte recalls seeing an Albanian associate stumble into his recording studio cut and bleeding after getting slashed with a box cutter.
He also saw one producer get shot to death after a baseline he made displeased the rap artist he was working with.
