‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ Goes Russian

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The Russians are treading on foreign territory and adapting Everybody Loves Raymond as their own.

The beloved American sitcom is being turned into a Russian version called Everybody Loves Kostya, with the same familiar storylines.

ELR creator Phil Rosenthal is flattered that his sitcom is getting “Russia-fied” and says it’ll look just like the American version – only with a few slight changes.

For instance, instead of living in a house, Russian Raymond and his wife will live in an apartment, which is more common in Moscow.

Ray’s overbearing parents will also live in an apartment across the hallway from him and even share a fire escape with their son.

Rosenthal laughs, “In some ways, the Russian version of the parents will be even more intrusive!”

Rosenthal helped producers cast for the overseas sitcom and is happy to report that the Russian version of Ray’s mother, Marie, is a dead-ringer for American ELR actress Doris Roberts.

He’s currently working on a documentary that follows the making of Everybody Loves Kostya.
