Tomorrow (Oct. 25), the town celebrates its 21st Annual UFO Day, based on strange saucer sightings that occurred back in 1987.
After seeing weird activity in the sky like flashing red, blue, and white lights suspended 1,000 feet in the air a couple of local sheriffs were convinced that there were alien UFOs hovering.
That year, dozens of Belleville locals also reported seeing cigar-shaped objects floating above, making the town the UFO Capitol of the World.
Belleville Chamber of Commerce president Brad Freitag says many local sightings have occurred since 1987, mostly of similar lights that mysteriously appear and then vanish into thin air.
He doesnt blame aliens for wanting to check out the family-friendly town, since its residents are so nice and the landscape is gorgeous.
Though hes never heard of any residents being abducted by aliens, he hopes UFO Day gets people comfortable enough to share those stories with others if they have them.
