157-Year-Old Sci-Fi Queen Goes Green

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Sci-fi actress Amanda Tapping is going green on the set of her new gig – green screen, that is.

Tapping – who played Colonel Samantha Carter for 10 seasons on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis – is the star and producer of the new Sci-Fi Channel show, Sanctuary.

The show was originally an Internet series and is now the only groundbreaking TV series combining live-action and actors against mostly virtual sets, similar to films like Sin City.

The result is what Tapping calls an “edgy graphic novel effect” with tons of visuals.

She says, “Things on Sanctuary aren’t always what they seem. It’s about 75 percent green screen to 25 percent practical set.”

Tapping admits it’s “weird” working in a virtual world and feels like she’s “putting on a theater play” every time the cameras roll.

Another fantasy element of her show is that she plays a 157- year-old scientist, who’s aging secrets she just can’t quite reveal.

Sanctuary premieres tomorrow (Oct. 3) on the Sci-Fi Channel.
