Burrito Eating As A Sport

PORTLAND, Maine (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Eating burritos requires more athleticism than one may think.

The Costa Vida Burrito Championships are happening in Portland, Maine, this Saturday (Sep. 20) and event organizer Fred Abaroa is spilling the beans about the disciplined contenders.

When it comes to training for the event, Abaroa says the burrito bingers are “no different than athletes.”

He explains, “They get themselves in the zone and each of them have their own rituals and ways of getting ready.”

Some eat veggies and stretch their bellies, and Abaroa recalls one challenger who drank six 16-ounce cups of Coke right before the competition began.

The burrito bandits are so competitive, they don’t even let themselves throw up during the chow down, or, as Abaroa puts it, “Have a reversal of fortune.”

In fact, not only do they not vomit, but after the competition they go directly to a local bar together and eat celebratory chicken wings.
