‘Big Lebowski’ Fans Take Love For Film Too Far

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Fans of the flick The Big Lebowski don’t let death stop them from enjoying the movie.

So says Will Russel, organizer and founder of Lebowski Fest, a two day event stopping in San Francisco this Friday (Sep. 5) through Saturday (Sep. 6) where Lebowski buffs gather to honor the cult classic.

“Achievers” – as Lebowski fans are called in reference to a line in the movie – bowl, knock back Jeff Bridges’ character The Dude’s drink of choice – white russians – and show their fanaticism in strange ways.

One year, two kids who’d watch the movie with their deceased uncle came to the fest, and brought the dead uncle with them.

Russel explains, “They put his ashes in a Folgers coffee can, just like in the movie, and entered him in the costume contest. The funny thing is, he only came in second.”

Though Russel admits many take their love for the movie too far, they’ve never had a toe severed or kidnapped a trophy wife to honor the movie.
