Hamburger’s Hometown Fires Up The Grill

AKRON, Ohio (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Akron, Ohio, has officially been declared the hometown of the hamburger.

To celebrate, fans of the flame-broiled fare are traveling to the small town this weekend (Jul. 19-20) for the 3rd Annual Hamburger Festival, and organizer Drew Cerza promises it’ll be a whopper of a time.

As Cerza puts it, “Hamburgers are a part of American pop culture so we figured we should celebrate their place in our hearts.”

Throughout the weekend, hamburger chefs can compete for the meaty “Best Burger” title, with extra points given for flavor and creativity.

Other highlights include a hamburger eating contest and the “Miss Hamburger” pageant, where contestants are judged not only on their style, but also on their knowledge of hamburger trivia.

However, Cerza says the most popular event at the fest is the “Bobbing for Hamburgers” contest, where hungry participants compete to see who can fish out the most mini- burgers from a baby pool filled with ketchup.
