‘Monk’ Actor Can’t Stop Talking About Food

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The latest addition to the Monk cast is working through his own compulsive habit: Talking about food.

Hector Elizondo – best known for his work on Chicago Hope – has joined the cast of Monk, the USA Network series about a quirky, obsessive compulsive detective played by Tony Shalhoub.

Elizondo plays Monk’s new therapist, and he admits that his own OCD tendency is to constantly talk about food with his co-stars.

He says, “ I have a compulsion to talk about eating all the time. It’s a measuring stick for me; If you like food, you’re okay with me!”

His ice-breaking, food-related discussions are quickly making Elizondo part of the Monk family.

He feels like he’s worked with the cast for years and says the gig is like “slipping into a pair of old, comfortable slippers.”

And the backstage crew knows exactly how to treat their new star.

Elizondo explains, “I like it here. They feed you, give you water, and drive you around in electric cars!”

Monk’s seventh season premieres Friday (Jul. 18) on USA Network.
