Not-So-Patriotic Fourth Of July Jams

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Honoring America the beautiful on the Fourth Of July could get ugly if you play some not-so- patriotic songs.

For instance, Prince’s “America” could ruin your July 4 barbecue with depressing lyrics like: Jimmy Nothing never went to school/ They made him pledge allegiance/ He said it wasn’t cool/ Nothing made Jimmy Proud/ Now Jimmy lives on a mushroom cloud/ America, America.

Soundgarden’s “4th Of July” isn’t any better for the holiday with lame lines like: The fire is spreading/ And no one wants to speak about it/ And I heard the wind/ And I saw it in the sky/ And I thought it was the end/ And I thought it was the 4th Of July.

To keep the fun in the sun going, stay away from Bruce Springsteen’s war-themed anthem “Born In The U.S.A.,” which laments: So they put a rifle in my hand/ Sent me off to a foreign land/ To go and kill the yellow man/ Born in the U.S.A.
