Mississippi: The New Gay Mecca?

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Move over San Francisco, there’s a new, surprising crop of gay-friendly cities.

Ed Salvato is the editor-in-chief of gay magazine The Out Traveler, who says that while San Francisco, New York, and Key West remain gay meccas, some smaller, more conservative cities are proudly becoming homosexual hostpots.

Salvato says, “Places like Biloxi, Mississippi, Bloomington, Indiana, and Boise, Idaho, are not meccas necessarily, but people can live more openly there now and not feel like they have to flee to the city. It’s not like, ‘It’s all good,’ but society is maturing.”

And it’s not just U.S. cities that are coming out of the closet.

According to Salvato, the gay scene in Shanghai, China, is “delightfully shocking,” and says gays are steering toward cities like Glasgow, Scotland, Caracas, Venezuela, and Dublin, Ireland.

He adds, “You think these cities would be conservative, but it’s unbelievable how progressive they are.”
