Thats straight from the lips of author Timothy Knight, whos just penned Great Kisses...and Famous Lines Right Out of the Movies (Harper Collins), a book that profiles 50 sensual kisses in Hollywood movie history, and he says old, golden age smooches prevail over modern-day puckers on the big screen.
Knight says classic films like From Here to Eternity, Notorious, and Roman Holiday, contain truly romantic, sexy kisses that leave more to the imagination, than todays more explicit films.
Knight says any Hollywood kisses starring legends like Cary Grant, Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn epitomize sensuality and leave the viewer breathless, as if theyd just been kissed themselves.
He says romantic music, witty dialogue, and sparring banter often leading up to the super smooch are crucial elements adding to the greatness of a kiss.
Knight explains, In The Lady Eve, theres this great sort of one-liner sparring between Henry Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck until finally, they kiss. Its all about the build-up.
But not all kisses meet the makeout mark.
Knight was slightly disappointed by the forbidden kiss between Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis in Witness because the scene leading up to the lip-lock was wordless.
