Eighty-Nine-Year-Old Man Takes A Gamble Running Las Vegas Marathon

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – An 89-year-old marathon runner is about to tear up the track on the Las Vegas Strip.

Julian Myers, a long-time Hollywood publicist, has competed in 25 marathons in his 89 years of life.

This Sunday (Dec. 2), Myers is hitting the pavement in the New Las Vegas Marathon, which pits 15,000 runners against each other in a 26-mile race down the Sin City Strip.

And while most contenders hope to come in first place, the senior athlete just hopes to finish the race.

Myers says, “My goal is to finish in 10 hours or less. I’ve slowed down a lot lately, but I’m still very determined. We’re having a special dinner that night to celebrate, and I just want to finish the race in time to make it to my own dinner!”

Myers’ family and friends will help him cross the finish line, with his wife walking part of the course with him, while his niece runs another.

He jokes, “My niece wants to be there to make sure I survive!”

While running, Myers will listen to songs on his MP3 player like Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” and he’ll also promote a holiday he created called “Amigo Day,” which celebrates friendship, love and happiness.

And even surrounded by the temptations of Sin City, Myers plans to remain focused.

He adds, “I’m going to get plenty of sleep and not stay up gambling too late.”
