Make Your Thanksgiving A Turkey-Free Tradition

BETHESDA, Md. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – This Thanksgiving (Nov. 22), skip the bird and throw some Tofu in the oven.

That’s the veggie tale from the Farm Animal Reform Movement (FARM), an animal activist group who are urging people to seek non-meat meal options on the traditional Turkey Day.

With options like the Tofurky – a tofu and wheat-based supper substitute – becoming more mainstream, people who believe it’s brutal to bring a bird to the table now don’t have to fly too far to find an edible and accessible alternative.

And there’s another benefit that’ll keep you awake and alert.

FARM executive director Dawn Moncrief says the non-turkey alternatives “have the same texture and feel, but you won’t have to take a nap afterwards.”

And all the conscious chowing might open your eyes to another aspect of the holiday.

Moncrief says, “I’m very aware of what birds go through. I can’t even think of eating turkey now, the idea is repulsive at this point. Plus, anything you can do traditionally you can do a vegan or vegetarian version of.”
