Slackers Get Reality Check From Honest Author

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Your parents don’t count as roommates, so move out of their basement.

That’s the word from Charles J. Sykes, radio host and author of 50 Rules Kids Won’t Learn in School (St. Martin’s Press), who says that parents “bubble wrapping” their kids, or shielding them from the ups and downs of life, can turn them into Peter Pan wannabes who never grow up.

He says, “Avoid the disgrace of being the loser that lives with your mom and dad. It becomes pathetic and almost creepy, and it’s not a turn on to anyone.”

Sykes says his rules like, “Life is not fair. Get used to it,” and “Looking like a slut does not empower you,” are life lessons that parents need to teach their kids to ensure they don’t become “kidults.”

Says Sykes: “Sooner or later kids will encounter reality like a brick wall. You have to remind kids that the world doesn’t revolve around them. It’s not harsh, just honest.”
