Serial Killer Author Freaks Himself Out

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Writing serial killer sagas is taking its toll on one amiable author.

Jeff Lindsay is the author of Dexter in the Dark (Doubleday), a book about a charismatic police department analyst who also happens to be a serial killer.

But don’t look to Lindsay himself for any torture tips.

He says, “I’ve never been fascinated by serial killers. A critic once said, ‘Dexter is redefining the serial killer genre,’ and I said, ‘What, there’s a genre?’”

In fact, researching and writing the book – which sparked the hit Showtime drama Dexter – involves some deadly delving into his own macabre mind.

Lindsay says, “I go to dark places I don’t like going. I’m not sitting there going, ‘He he, he cut off the fingers,’ – I get creeped out!”

And after releasing his inner psycho, the only thing Lindsay looks forward to killing is time.

He says, “When I’m done writing I want to do something normal and safe, like hug my kids or have an extra beer.”

Dexter in the Dark splatters onto shelves September 18.
