Watermelon Lovers Spit And Swallow

PARDEEVILLE, Wis. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Folks in Pardeeville, Wisconsin, can spit and swallow with the best of them.

That’s because they’re holding the 39th Annual U.S. Watermelon Seed-Spitting and Speed-Eating Championship on September 8, and folks are vying for top seed.

About 150 hopefuls will be spittin’ and swallowin’ their way to the top, and using their melons to strategize a game plan for victory.

Event president Clark Hodgson says folks only get one shot to spit as far as they can, and picking a good seed is key.

He says, “If seeds are too big, or misshapen, they won’t be very aerodynamic.”

Though many come up with various techniques for hawking their seeds, Hodgson says it all comes down to luck.

The watermelon speed-eating competition, however, all comes down to gag reflex.

For this event, Hodgson advises folks to “work their face into the watermelon” while making sure not to gag, because in his words, “if there’s any regurgitation, you’re out of the competition.”
