Comedy Is Truly A Numbers Game

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Comedy is truly a numbers game if the authors of a new instructional book are serious.

Gary Rudoren and Eric Hoffman are the authors of Comedy By The Numbers (McSweeneys), which features 169 ways to be funny all listed in alphabetical order, starting with “Animals Doing Things Humans Do.”

Rudoren says the book has legitimate tips on being funny, but admits the idea that it’s possible to be funny just by reading a book is laughable.

However, he says that if a person has to pick just one thing to be funny, he figures the fart joke may be the most universal since, he points out, “most comedy comes from embarrassment.”

The book also includes tips on making ethnic jokes.

For instance, Rudoren says both Jews and non-Jews are well aware they can get laughs making fun of Jewish stereotypes.

Rudoren believes folks will benefit from the fountain of funniness, it may not work for guys like disgraced shock jock Don Imus.

As he puts it, “Imus would probably take this book seriously, and think calling people ‘nappy-headed hoes’ is funny.”
