Rickie Lee Jones Collaborates With Jesus

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you’re looking for a musical collaborator, why not start at the top?

That’s what singer Rickie Lee Jones thinks, which is why her newest songwriting partner is Jesus Christ.

Jones – who is best known for her 1978 hit, “Chuck E.’s In Love” – has just released The Sermon On Exposition Boulevard, which features a series of songs where she reinterprets the words of Christ.

As she puts it, “It didn’t start that way. At first, I just read from the book [the Bible], but it didn’t feel right. So I’d listen to a track and then make a song.”

Jones felt this approach forced her to focus on what Jesus actually said, and points to the album’s first song “Nobody Knows My Name” – her rewrite of the Lord’s Prayer – as an example.

In her words, “It’s about people who make a big demonstration by saying it over and over again, even though if you actually read it, it says ‘Don’t pray over and over again.”’
