Cheerleading Industry To Get Own Hall Of Fame

AUSTIN, Texas (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Ready...okay! Here’s something to cheer about – the cheerleading industry may soon be getting its own Hall of Fame.

That’s the dream of former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Cindy Villarreal-Hughes, who is trying to raise funds for the nation’s first official Cheerleading Hall of Fame to honor the peppy pioneers of the industry.

The Hall will praise historical figures of cheer like Thomas Peebles – a Princeton graduate who introduced organized cheering to the University of Minnesota in 1884 – and may also praise certain celebrity cheerleaders.

Says Villarreal-Hughes: “I think we’ll have a political wing of the hall to honor ex-cheerleaders like President George W. Bush. We also want a TV and film exhibit showcasing celebrity cheerleaders like Aaron Spelling, Madonna and Paula Abdul.”

Villarreal-Hughes plans to induct cheerleaders who have had “great influence and impact” on the industry while teaching the evolution of the sport.

Villarreal-Hughes isn’t sure what if the inductees will receive as prizes yet, but she’s not opposed to presenting them with golden pom-poms.
