New Musical Ensemble Introduces New York Style Of Ukulele

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The ukulele is associated with Hawaii but a group of musicians hopes to add a New York flair to the instrument.

The band is called the New York Ukulele Ensemble and makes its world debut tomorrow (Oct. 31) at a Greenwich Village masquerade ball.

The Uke Ensemble is the brainchild of a man named Uke Jackson, who says the New York-style of ukulele is “more driving and edgier” than the Hawaiian technique.

So is the band’s set list. Instead of tunes like “My Little Grass Shack,” the Ensemble jams on “Don’t Fear The Reaper” and “Gangsta’s Paradise.”

Jackson says the band has two major goals: Inspiring others to pick up the instrument and getting through a whole concert without ever playing “Tiny Bubbles.”
