Phil Lesh Making Friends Wherever He Goes

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Phil Lesh was once the bassist for the Grateful Dead but now he’s just grateful he has so many friends.

For the last few years, Lesh has been performing concerts under the name Phil Lesh & Friends, which features a rotating group of musicians including jazz guitarist John Scofield, former Phish leader Trey Anastasio and singer Joan Osborne.

As a result, he’s played with a lot of musicians but they haven’t always played with each other.

Still, he likes the band’s everchanging sound. In his words, “I don’t like to over rehearse so we use little signposts that help define the songs.”

Lesh says all the musicians who play with him are world class so he’s able to capture lightning in a bottle on a consistent basis.

Still, he was especially pleased by a concert performed this past May in San Francisco, so much so that he’s releasing the performance as both a DVD and CD set called Live At The Warfield.

The album hits stores on Halloween (Oct. 31),which Lesh says is fitting since that day emphasizes “what’s real and what isn’t – which is what we did with the Dead.”
