Prosthetic Leg A Real ‘Lemon’ For ‘Amazing Race’ Rejects

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Don’t judge the durability of prosthetic legs by the one worn by Amazing Race contestant Sarah Reinertsen – it was a real lemon.

That’s the word from Sarah – an amputee – and her racing partner and former boyfriend, Peter Harsch, who is a clinical prosthetist.

Although Reinertsen’s leg was supposed to be state-of- the-art, it started leaking early in the race and a back-up limb didn’t do so well either.

But Harsch says Reinertsen has competed in Ironman triathlons wearing a similar prosthetic and says the two models they brought for the CBS reality show just happened to be lemons.

As he puts it, “Mercedes Benz and BMWs are great cars but, occasionally, you get one that’s a lemon too.”

Despite going out on a limb for the show, Reinertsen is happy she made the journey. In her words, “In some of the countries we visited, they shut disabled people away in homes and they don’t get much chance to do anything.”
