70s Fashions Live On In New Book

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Nowadays wearing a leisure suit is considered a major faux pas, but back in the 1970s it reeked of coolness.

Author Maureen Valdes Marsh explores the leisure suit phenomenon and other 70s fashion disasters in her new book 70s Fashion Fiascos (Collector’s Press), and says, although she “loves the 70s” there is a reason why the decade has a bad rap.

As she points out, “The leisure suit is the butt of so many jokes, but it was so hip and cool to own one back then.”

While she doesn’t think the leisure suit will be making a comeback anytime soon, Marsh does worry that another 70s fashion staple – platform shoes – are coming back in style – and she has no idea why.

Says Marsh: “They are so hideous and when I see girls today wearing them I can’t help but think how uncomfortable they are and how silly they still really look.”

70s Fashion Fiascos is in stores this November.
