Kim Jong-il – Second Place Is First Loser

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Kim Jong-il might be making international waves right now with his nuclear weapons, but that doesn’t mean he has what it takes to be the No. 1 dictator in the world.

That’s the word from author David Wallechinsky whose been compiling a list of the worst living dictators for Parade magazine for several years.

He believes Sudanese leader Omar al-Bashir should keep his No. 1 spot over Jong-il because he is responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of people and, he points out, “just because you have a nuclear weapon doesn’t necessarily bump you up a notch.”

Says Wallechinsky: “I mean Kim Jong-il’s in second place – you gotta give the guy some credit.”

Other dictators that make the grade include Uzbekistan leader Islam Karimov and Fidel Castro, although Wallechinsky admits “he’s an over the hill dictator” and could possibly be taken off the list soon if his health doesn’t improve.

Wallechinsky’s book Tyrants: The World’s Worst Living Dictators (Regan) is currently in stores.
