‘Dance’ Dumpee Says Just Because He’s Black Doesn’t Mean He’s Hip-Hop Expert

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The most recent male dumpee from So You Think You Can Dance may look like he’s a good hip-hop dancer, but looks can be deceiving.

At least that’s the case with Ryan Rankine, an African American dancer from New York.

He says people may be surprised to learn that the hardest dance for him during the show was hip-hop.

In his words, “Everyone expected me to be really good at hip-hop because I’m a black man, when the truth is that I’m not really that good at it.”

Rankine says that sometimes he dances hip-hop while “chillin’ at the club,”but nothing as stylized as on the show.

Instead, Rankine excels at dances like the Cha-Cha and the Cuban Rumba, dispelling the myth that all black people solely enjoy hip-hop.
