Everclear’s Alexasis Claims Song ‘Hater’ Not Really About Jesus’ DUI

PORTLAND (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Everclear is one of the few ’90s alt-rock bands still making popular music, but their frontman says it’s sometimes the worst things that inspire his greatest songs.

Art Alexakis began playing music more than 20 years ago, and says paying those emotional and experiential dues are central to his band’s ninth album, Welcome To The Drama Club – which is set for release September 12.

The new songs are about, in Alexakis’ words, “My divorce – how you can sometimes hate someone that you can’t help but still love – like why I wrote ‘Hater.”’

He adds: “It was just something that HAD to come out of me or I thought I’d go nuts.”

The video for “Hater” is already an internet hit; but the tune’s controversial clip – featuring a drunk- driving Jesus – is not really about what Alexakis says, “is actually the ultimate break up song.”

He says it’s obvious that, “The video is a different, expanded idea of love and hate.”
