Dancing Dogs Waltz Away With Prancing Pets Honors

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When it comes to dancing animals, there’s no pussyfooting about it: Dogs do it the best.

That’s what TV producer Todd Barton fetched while digging doggedly through footage of prancing pets for an upcoming Animal Planet special, Dancing Pet Stars.

The special features the top 20 dancing animal performances that appeared on the now defunct series Pet Star and Barton admits dog acts make up the top five.

In his words, “It’s amazing what they can do. One woman dances with her dog to a song from Grease and another did a matador routine with her pooch.”

However, the best pet dancer of all is a dog who does an Irish jig that requires him to stand on his hind legs for three minutes.

But while dogs seem to be the best dancers in the animal kingdom, they’re not the whole show. For instance, there’s a horse that dances to “The Hokey Pokey,” a cat who dances while walking on a tight rope and a pig who moves around its owner in a figure eight pattern.

Dancing Pet Stars, which is hosted by Mario Lopez, airs June 24.
