Card Collectors Shuffling For NFL Draft

DALLAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The NFL draft is scheduled for Saturday (Apr. 29) and many of the players are already real cards with collectors.

Dan Hitt, the price guide editor for Beckett Football Collector magazine, says the big three names being talked about by the draft gurus – Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart and Vince Young – are expected to be big deals with collectors right out of the gate.

Hitt says that’s partially because they went to schools like USC and Texas which have rabid followers who buy up pro cards of former players.

Draft experts believe Young will be drafted lower than Leinart or Bush, but Hitt claims Young has more of an upside.

Hitt says even though sales of Bush rookie cards should start out “hot and expensive,” the expected dismal performance of the Houston Texans – the team that will probably pick him – will keep the value of his card from increasing beyond that.

Case in point: Eli Manning was the No. 1 rookie card two years ago and initially valued higher than fellow first round pick Ben Roethlisberger, who has since become more popular with collectors, thanks to winning this year’s Super Bowl.
