Non-Fake Lesbians, Jimmy Buffett Fans Among Worst Things To Happen To Music

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Looking for someone to blame someone for the sorry state of music? Well, how about Jimmy Buffett fans or “non-fake lesbians.”

Those are just two of the villains who made it onto Blender magazine’s “50 Worst Things To Ever Happen To Music”

Blender editor Jonah Weiner says “non-fake lesbians” like Melissa Etheridge and the Indigo Girls helped popularize earnest coffeeshop confessionalism while Buffett’s “Parrotheads” hold up the lines at karaoke bars just so they can sing “Margaritaville” again.

AIDS also makes the list – but not for obvious reasons. Weiner says the musical damage was how it has demonized sex and drugs – two ingredients essential to great rock music.

Finally, “melisma” makes the list – and for those not in the know, that’s the style of vocal gymnastics made famous by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey that adds 25 syllables to words like “girl” or “baby.”
