Harry Shearer Grateful Mike Wallace Is Semi-Retiring

AUSTIN, Texas (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Some people are sad that Mike Wallace is semi-retiring from 60 Minutes but comedian Harry Shearer is “grateful.”

Shearer is about to release a new comedy CD, Dropping Anchors, that is dedicated to retiring news anchormen like Ted Koppel, Tom Brokaw and, of course, Wallace.

As he puts it, “I’m grateful that he’s retiring because it brings focus to the fact that all these guys are leaving.”

One bit features Shearer as Brokaw singing “Songs In The Key Of L” and another has him imitating Barbara Walters on a tune called “82 Facelifts.”

Shearer says he finds the power that comes with being an anchorman or woman fascinating.

In his words, “These guys develop ‘red light fever,’ which is when you’ve built your metabolism on getting an adrenalin rush at 6 p.m. every night but then when they leave they become an unknown quantity in as little as a year.”

Dropping Anchors hits stores on Tuesday (Mar. 21) as does Now You See It, a DVD featuring Shearer’s favorite bits from Saturday Night Live and Late Night With David Letterman.
