Movie Fans Band Together To Protest ‘Brokeback Mountain’ Oscar Loss

DENVER (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Brokeback Mountain’s Oscar loss has left one movie fan in Denver brokenhearted – and he’s letting the Academy Awards voters know about it.

Brokeback Mountain buff Dave Cullen can’t believe Crash won the Best Picture Oscar – even though he never saw it.

In his words, “I tried to watch it three times and only got through three-fourths of it. It rang false from the opening scene.”

He’s not the only guy complaining. Cullen claims he’s had thousands of hits to his website – – and that several people support his position. As he puts it, “Everyone was stunned – even Jack Nicholson said, ‘Whoa.’”

So he and other movie fans have raised $13,619.13 to purchase an ad running in the show business trade magazine Variety tomorrow (Mar. 10).

Cullen says the ad lets the Oscar voters know that “we feel for the people who made [Brokeback Mountain] and that there’s a lot of people who still think it was the best movie of the year.”
