Smokin’ Joe Frazier Celebrates 35th Anniversary Of Ali Defeat

PHILADELPHIA (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The man who delivered Muhammad Ali’s first professional loss with a lethal left hook at Madison Square Garden 35 years ago is going back to the place where it all happened.

Boxer Joe Frazier says he’ll be attending a party in New York tonight (Mar. 8) to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the 1971 fight that left Ali flat on his back.

Frazier reminisces, “I was just waiting for that day to show up. It was one of the greatest fights EVER. We fought 15 rounds....I beat the guy who said, [in Ali voice] ‘Joe Frazier, I am the greatest!’”

In the past, there was some bad blood between Frazier and Ali, but the fighter admits things have changed.

He jokes, “You know how they say ‘beat ‘em when he’s down?’ I beat ‘em up when he’s down!”

He then concedes, “We had some great moments. A lot of people love both of us. I’m gonna give him that respect. We’re just gonna enjoy what the Lord gave us.”
