Beer Drinkers To Square Off In “Beerdrinker Of The Year” Contest

SEATTLE (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A competition is brewing over who’ll walk away as this year’s “Beerdrinker of the Year” in Denver tomorrow (Feb. 25).

Despite the sound of it, the competition held by Wynkoop Brewing Company doesn’t reward the person who can drink the most beer.

Instead, it’s a contest consisting of a “brewkaki” style Q&A session on all things beer related, a taste testing and a competition called The Beer Whisperer where contestants must hold a conversation with their favorite beer.

One of the three finalists, Tom Schmidlin, a grad student from the University of Washington, says he’s a good candidate for winner because he’s a home brewer and enjoys studying beer and yeast.

Schmidlin has a hard time deciding what his favorite beer is. He says, “It’s like being asked to pick a favorite child.”

But if he manages to reg-“ale” judges, Schmidlin will win free beer for life from the Wynkoop Brewing Company and $250 worth of beer at their local beer bar.
