February 11 Is National Pro Sports Wives Day

ATLANTA (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Looks like the calendar is sporting a new holiday next month: National Pro Sports Wives Day.

At least that’s the declaration of a group called the Professional Sports Wives Association, which has set February 11 as the inaugural date because, as founder Gena James-Pitts puts it, “It’s right before Valentine’s Day; right after the Super Bowl and before spring training.”

James-Pitts says the day is mainly “a sweethearts day” where the 500,000 married pro athletes and coaches in the U.S. “can celebrate how we are supportive partners who can multi-task.”

She admits that on the outside, the life of a sports wife seems glamorous, but says the ladies not only have to support their hubby emotionally but sometimes financially as well – especially since it’s not uncommon for a athlete to retire with more than $250,000 worth of debt.

Although it’s called National Pro Sports Wives Day, James-Pitts doesn’t expect the average American to send gifts or cards to her or other sports wives, but hopes their athletic hubbies use the day to show their appreciation.
