Use Your DNA To Create A Work Of Art

OTTAWA (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you’re looking for the ultimate conversation piece for your home, how about a piece of art made from your own DNA?

A Canadian company called DNA 11 is now producing digitally enhanced DNA portraits in a range of colors from customers’ saliva samples.

DNA 11 co-founder Adrian Salamunovic explains after sending in your saliva, your DNA fingerprint is photographed with a special lab camera to make a piece of art using “a portion of your DNA sequence.”

He says people often ask if they can surprise someone with a portrait by secretly collecting their saliva, but he doesn’t encourage it.

That’s because you need to move a cotton swab around someone’s mouth for about 30 seconds to get the goods. He adds, “We haven’t had one person successfully do it yet.”

In addition to “people pieces,” Salamunovic says they’ve created DNA portraits from fruit, dogs and even ferrets.

Asked if Paris Hilton’s ferret has a portrait, Salamunovic admits, “We don’t know! It was done through a guy in New York.”
