Philadelphia To Hold 300 Ben Franklin ‘Blitz Parties’

PHILADELPHIA (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Philadelphia’s tourism board is flying high as a kite as they are about to throw 300 parties between Friday (Jan. 13) and Monday (Jan. 17) in honor of Ben Franklin’s 300th birthday.

An spokeswoman at the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. describes the parties as “blitz parties” where an actor dressed as Franklin and two other “colonists” burst into a hotel or restaurant or retail store, hand out party hats and noisemakers, sing happy birthday and leave after 10 minutes.

The group Once Upon a Nation is responsible for arranging the parties and is the same organization that arranged 24 parties in 24 hours for the millennium.

In addition to the mini Franklin fests, Philadelphia will also hold a cake lighting party for Ben on his actual birthday.

Three-hundred volunteers, each representing a character trait of the founding father will light a candle on a cake, which will be blown out by the Declaration of Independence signer himself.
