Tom Selleck Nixes Plans For Weekly Jesse Stone Series

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Tom Selleck got such a good reaction from his first Jesse Stone TV movie for CBS, it’s no wonder the network has been strongly hinting to him about doing it as a weekly series.

Selleck plays the fictional detective on Jesse Stone: Night Passage, airing Jan. 15 on CBS, and the former Magnum P.I. star admits network execs would like him to do a full season.

However, Selleck knows the rigors of doing a weekly series and thinks the time commitment would keep him away from his two daughters.

As he puts it, “CBS has given me serious hints, but I quit a No. 1 show to raise a family.”

Selleck loves the character so much that he plans to do a series of Jesse Stone TV movies a la Columbo, running once or twice a year.

That’s an idea that gets support from crime novelist Robert B. Parker, who created the Jesse Stone character. He admits, “A weekly show needs 26 episodes. I haven’t written that many books.”
