Christmas Comes Early For Michael McDonald

BURBANK, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Christmas came early for Michael McDonald this year – in June.

That’s when the former Doobie Brothers singer got an assignment from Hallmark to record a new Christmas CD, and he says he scurried around to get it done in three weeks so that it could hit stores in November.

Although the deadline loomed over McDonald’s head, he says the music benefitted from time constraints because “we didn’t have time to overthink the arrangements.”

Initially, McDonald thought it might be difficult to record a Christmas CD in summer but he found it surprisingly easy to get in the holiday spirit. Maybe too easy.

As he puts it, “I had trouble remembering that it wasn’t Christmas and I kept wishing people ‘Merry Christmas’ at the cash register.

The final product, Through The Many Winters, A Christmas Album, was released a few weeks ago and has already gone gold even though it is only available at Hallmark Gold Crown stores.

That is a gift to McDonald, who says the success proves that “the audiences are still there if you can reach them.”
