The competition takes place November 16, and pits four teams each consisting of a chef and an ice sculptor from hotels along the Vegas Strip against each other to produce a four-foot high sculpture out of spun sugar and ice using the theme Fire & Ice.
Artists will have to work quickly, but delicately, as sugar and melting ice can be a recipe for disaster.
Allison Page, a spokeswoman for the Food Network which is taping the event for its Food Network Challenge TV show, says, Sugars biggest enemy is humidity.
She adds its very possible that some of the sculptures will turn to mush or break apart before judging time.
The winning team will take home $10,000 in cold hard cash for their cool sculpture.
