‘Shroom With A View Toward Better Mental Health

SONOMA, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You might think psychedelic mushrooms will turn your brain to mush but a researcher in Sonoma, California, hopes you have “shroom” for other viewpoints.

Ralph Metzner, author of Sacred Mushroom Of Vision Teonanacatl (Park Street Press), says there are lots of misconceptions about psilocybin mushrooms, including the perception the fungi cause hallucinations.

Instead, Metzner says the mushrooms “provide insight into reality,” which is why they have been used by indigenous cultures since ancient times in order to aid in problem solving.

Research suggests they may be especially helpful for people suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorders because they help a person “see beyond themselves” and better understand their problems.

Metzner hopes his book raises further interest in the study of psilocybin mushrooms, particularly because it contains various case studies involving people who were visited by reptilian-like creatures while under the influence of the drug.

Although Metzner says many people have more mundane experiences while tripping on mushrooms, he admits they aren’t included in the book “because they aren’t as interesting.”
