Smits And Alda Debate ‘Less Scripted Than The Real Ones’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Alan Alda and Jimmy Smits are planning a live presidential debate on an upcoming episode of The West Wing – and it may be less scripted than the real thing.

Alda and Smits are both excited by the concept but are approaching it differently.

Smits, who portrays Democratic nominee Matt Santos, is excited from an acting standpoint to “riff” on debate questions submitted by viewers.

Meanwhile, Alda, who plays Republican Senator Arnold Vinick, is mainly concerned that “one way or another, the arguments on both sides be as good as they can be instead of just covering all the bases.”

Questions can be submitted to which has set up campaign forums for both candidates.
