Sometimes It’s Good To Be In The Doghouse

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Being “in the doghouse” is usually a bad thing – unless your doghouse is a cushy Chinese pagoda designed by a professional architect.

Pooches will soon be seen lounging in log cabins, pagodas, tents and more thanks to a new DIY Network series called Barkitecture, premiering Oct. 5.

A typical episode goes like this: Dr. Karen Tobias, a veterinary surgery professor at the University of Tennessee, helps a family rescue a dog from a shelter and then doghouse designer Kenny Alfonso builds a fabulous place for Fido to sleep.

But Tobias says the dogs’ reactions to their new palace is anything but typical.

She says, “The funniest thing is trying to get the dogs to go into the house we just built or getting them to come out.”

The owners tend to act strange around the canine creations as well. Tobias says they once made a dog bed with a heated vibrating mattress for a senior dog, but in the end, she reveals, “We had to convince the owner not to sleep on it.”

There will be a sneak peek episode of Barkitecture this Sunday (Sept. 18) on HGTV.
