Average White Band Covers Wall With Samples

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The Average White Band has an above average rate of being sampled by rappers.

That’s what bassist Alan Gorrie says has happened for the last 20 years, especially with instrumental hits like “Cut The Cake” and “Pick Up The Pieces.”

In fact, Gorrie has a wall in his home with nothing but cassettes of bands that have sampled AWB, including TLC, MC Hammer and A Tribe Called Quest.

Gorrie doesn’t mind the clutter and considers the sampling “a compliment that endorses validity in what you did.”

But while the AWB enjoys being sampled by rappers, don’t expect Gorrie and company to return the favor.

He admits, “Rap is a language we don’t understand.”

The AWB expects to be sampled even more thanks to a new DVD, Live At Montreux 1977, hitting stores on Tuesday (Sept. 6).
