Author Hurls Himself Into Catapult Craze

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – An Asheville, North Carolina, author is hoping his new book will catapult him into success.

That’s because Bill Wilson’s book is titled Backyard Catapults: How to Build Your Own (Loompanics).

Wilson – who works for the Cingular Wireless cell phone company when he’s not building catapults – says his fascination with the medieval weapons began as a child while watching Saturday matinees about knights from the Dark Ages. He says when they brought out the catapult, “I always thought it was the coolest thing.”

Although a man’s home is his castle, these days, there aren’t many castle walls the average homeowner needs to smash. Still, Wilson jokes, “If they don’t like their neighbor, there’s a variety of things they can do.”

Or they can do as Wilson did. He turned his old broken down Toyota into a target and shot rocks at it.

His record so far is 150 yards with a 10-pound rock.
