Pro Tennis Wasn’t Matthew Perry’s Racket

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Matthew Perry was a good sport on Friends but he wishes he was born a better athlete in real life.

When Perry was a kid, he dreamed of making a mark as a tennis pro and was good enough to be a nationally-ranked junior in his home country of Canada.

However, he says reality sunk in and he realized he had already reached the top of his game.

So Perry is flexing some different muscles as the host of the 13th Annual ESPY Awards this Sunday (Jul. 17) on ESPN and insists he’s involved in all aspects of the show.

In fact, he jokes that he’s looked at the seating chart and is worried that “we’ve placed all the jockeys behind the basketball players.”

Perry isn’t revealing what he’ll do as host but admits he tends to “act geeky” when he’s around his sports heroes and says he’s especially excited about meeting Indianapolis Colts quarterback Payton Manning, tennis star Maria Sherapova and, he adds, “of course, the jockeys.”
