Tony Shalhoub: ‘Monk’ Has Crept Into The Vocabulary

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Tony Shalhoub’s crime show, Monk, is a common sight in TV listings but it could soon be in the dictionary.

That’s the word from Shalhoub, who is proud that the show has “crept into the vernacular” thanks to fans who describe their own obsessive-compulsive episodes as “Monking out” or “having a Monk moment.”

Even better: The character’s OCD is inspiring drinking games with the show’s fans.

Sadly, Shalhoub isn’t immune to his own Monk moments. He says he spends so much time in character that the detective’s tics are rubbing off on him.

For instance, when a fan asks to shake Shalhoub’s hand, he gets “horrible little thoughts” about where their paw has been before.

The fourth season of Monk starts July 8 on the USA network.
