Drunks Causing Trouble At Winery Tasting Rooms

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Winery tasting rooms can be just like bars: Drunks stumbling around, slurring their words and causing damage.

That’s according to former tasting room bartender Dawn Wells, who worked at several wineries in the Santa Barbara, California, region, the setting for the movie, Sideways.

She says the goal of many wine tasters is “definitely to get hammered.”

Wells says she was “very surprised” to see people getting “so trashed” when she first started working there, especially since the majority of wine tasters are 30 years or older and less inclined to binge drink.

Even though most wineries provide bread and crackers, Wells says the alcoholic content of wine is higher than most wine tasters realize, so intoxication comes quicker than expected.

Although Wells has never personally cut off any vino chuggers for being too drunk, she has “seen it happen” and has also seen an inebriated taster topple a barrel of aging wines and cut his head before fleeing.
