For Dan Lauria, Real ‘Wonder Years’ Were As A Marine

NEW ORLEANS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Actor Dan Lauria is best known as the grumbling dad on The Wonder Years but his best work has never been on camera.

Lauria is a former Marine and Vietnam veteran and is so faithful to his military training that he considers “Memorial Day more important than Christmas.”

As such, Lauria says he will be spending the day calling fellow vets like actor Jack Klugman and the father of his best friend, actress Wendie Malick, to say, “thank you.”

He also recommends non-vets do the same for the former military members in their lives.

But Lauria isn’t just spending Memorial Day on the phone. He’s also participating in The National Memorial Day Concert with former American Dreams star Gail O’Grady by reading love letters exchanged between a Marine stationed in Iraq and his wife.

The concert airs Sunday (May 29) on PBS and will also feature performances by Vanessa Williams, Gary Sinise, Colin Powell and Trace Adkins.
