Celebrity Ballroom Dance Show Hopes To Tap American Audience

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – ABC is hoping its newest reality series will tap a huge audience – literally.

That’s because the show, Dancing With The Stars, will feature celebrities like boxer Evander Holyfield, former Bachelorette Trista Sutter and former New Kids On The Block member Joey McIntyre, training and competing in a ballroom dancing competition with professional dancers.

The show debuts June 1 and producer Richard Hopkins is confident it will rhumba up the ratings because “It’s weird. It’s not often you see this on TV.”

Dancing With The Stars is based on a British series where celebs dance and get critiqued by experts and viewers. A different dance couple is voted out each week until two teams face off for the finals.

Hopkins says the celebrities are participating in order to show off hidden talents but also because “everyone looks glamorous when dancing.”

Some celebs will find it easier than others. Hopkins says Holyfield has already “hit the cameras more times than he hit anyone in the boxing ring.”
