Julia Child Gets Seedy Tribute From Watermelon Artist

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Famed TV chef Julia Child passed away last August, but she will soon be getting a seedy tribute from America’s most renowned watermelon artist.

Hugh McMahon makes a fruitful living carving portraits in watermelons and his latest melon masterpiece is going to be an image of Child’s face carved into a watermelon.

McMahon is carving up Child for the James Beard Awards, an annual event that is considered the Oscars of Food, and he says it’s a daunting challenge for any artist because, he admits, “she’s a big gangly woman; a real tomboy.”

The watermelon Child will be officially unveiled May 2 but McMahon will start cutting it up three days beforehand.

He says he will also pay tribute to Child’s love of French cuisine by carving up melons to look like the Eiffel Tower and other scenes from Parisian life.
